Meet Mike and Joanne Chastain

Mike and Joanne Chastain have been married since 1981 and have spent their lives seeking to follow Christ and help others grow in their relationship with Him. They first met in Charleston, South Carolina, while Joanne was studying at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing and Mike was a graduate of The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina.
Mike came to faith in Christ as a sophomore at The Citadel, where the Lord began shaping the direction of his life. During their early years in Charleston, Mike was actively sharing the gospel and leading evangelism efforts, and Joanne herself came to faith through that ministry. As she began her walk with Christ, Mike discipled her, and together they began a lifelong journey of serving the Lord.
Following his call to ministry, Mike attended seminary became an ordained teaching elder. For nearly forty years he has devoted himself to teaching and discipling believers, with a deep commitment to the study and memorization of Scripture so that he might serve as a faithful instrument in God’s hands.
Over the years Mike has helped start several churches in the Northeast and has been actively involved in founding and leading two classical Christian schools. Today he serves as the organizing pastor of Reformation Bible Church in Savannah, Georgia, his hometown.
After returning to Savannah, Mike became increasingly concerned about the decline of biblical influence in modern universities. Wanting to understand firsthand the ideas shaping today’s culture, he enrolled in a local college and has spent several years studying philosophy and women’s studies. Joanne records many of the conversations and experiences that arise from these encounters in The Diary of a Seventy-Year-Old College Freshman, affectionately known as "The Diary."
Mike and Joanne continue to invest personally in believers through teaching, discipleship, and hospitality. They are grateful and greatly enjoy their eight children, seven children-in-law, and seventeen grandchildren, all of whom are walking with the Lord. Together they remain committed to helping believers grow deeply in Christ and pass on a lasting legacy of biblical discipleship.
