An Evening at The Citadel: Growing in Christ Together
This past Monday evening, we had the privilege of spending time with a group of cadets at The Citadel for a meaningful Bible study and fellowship. The focus of the night was the Gospel of John and the practice of prayer—two foundations that continue to shape a believer’s walk with Christ. As we opened Scripture together, the cadets were reminded of who Jesus is, what He has done, and how deeply personal a relationship with Him can be.
One of the highlights of the evening was a simple but revealing exercise: a quiz on prayer. It wasn’t about right or wrong answers as much as it was about drawing out what the cadets already understood—and where they were still growing. This helped distill their thoughts and created space for honest conversation. They found it both encouraging and clarifying.
We had introduced a practical framework for prayer: ACTS—Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. This model has given the cadets a clear and biblical way to structure their prayers, helping them move beyond uncertainty into confidence as they approach God. So using this method, we prayed together.
Of course, no gathering is complete without good food, and the group enjoyed sharing a meal together, strengthening not just their understanding of Scripture but their relationships with one another.
It’s encouraging to see how these young men are growing in Jesus—taking steps to know Him more deeply, learning how to pray, and committing to memorize Scripture. While they admitted that memorization can be difficult, there was a shared desire to press on, trusting that hiding God’s Word in their hearts will bear fruit over time.
Even in the challenges, God is at work.
Please continue to pray for these cadets—that they would grow in grace, stand firm in truth, and develop lifelong habits of seeking the Lord through His Word and through prayer.
