Not a shining moment for free speech…

Thursday in Gender Class the subject of Black Lives Matter came up. You would have thought it was a love fest.  Of course, all were singing the praises of BLM making strides toward equality and fairness, upholding the cause of the downtrodden and abused.

“Have you read the BLM website?”  Mike interjected.  “Do you realize that they clearly state that they are a militant Marxist organization calling for the disruption and dismantling of the Western nuclear family and the annihilation of Israel?”

Their phones came out along with their fangs. They searched the web and one man blurted out, “It does not!  I am reading it right here, and it says nothing like that.”

One girl sneered, “If you keep talking you are going to really mess up this time because I am reading it live right now, and it doesn’t say that at all.”  

“You are just a white racist,” another girl hissed. “You need to just shut up.”

  “You just made that up because you want to keep blacks and queer enslaved.”

As they say, "All hell broke loose." Mike tried to talk but was literally shouted down and called a “racist” and “homophobe.” The professor was not in control of the class at all.  Mike kept trying to interject, but the attempt was futile.  Let's just say, it was not a shining moment for free speech and liberty.  

After arriving home a bit bummed out, Mike pulled up the BLM website.  Sure enough, it was not there.  In fact, the “What We Believe” page he had read only weeks before was a fraction of the size he had read.  And it had been radically cleaned up.

A little while later the phone rang. It was his professor from the Gender Class. She apologized for the way he had been treated in class and told him that on the following Tuesday, she would give him the floor without interruption to speak his point of view on Black Lives Matter.  Mike smiled at God’s wise providence.  Now he would be heard.

Mike has the floor

Tuesday came around and the professor began by addressing the seven other in-person students in the class and the myriad of live-streamed faces on the Zoom wall.  

"Last week," she began, "I believe that Mike Chastain was not given opportunity to speak his point of view when we were talking about BLM.  I want every student in my classes to have their voice heard, and so I am giving Mike the floor to speak his views on BLM without interruption, and you will be given opportunity to interact with his positions after, but with respect for each other."

Before I speak about BLM...

"Before I begin," Mike surveyed their faces, "let me say that while we may be very different from each other in many ways, our differences are not my starting point.  I see us alike in that we are all created in the image of God. Therefore, I see each one of you as valuable, as having dignity and as deserving of my respect.  So, if I say something that you don't agree with..." Mike grinned broadly, "and I am betting that I wilI...I say it because I love you and have a firmly held belief that by disagreeing with you, I am helping you and loving you." 

Black Lives Matter versus BLM^TM  

The professor nodded, "So, tell us what you have against Black Lives Matter."    

Mike began, “That’s the thing.  We have to first discern whether we are talking about Black Lives Matter, the grass roots group of people seeking reform, or Black Lives Matter^TM, the Marxist organization.  A lot of the problem is that we are not making a distinction between them when, in fact, they are two different things.  I’d say most Americans don’t even realize they should be making a distinction."  

Mike continued, "I think most Americans want all people to be treated fairly and would support people fighting in good faith to do away with discrimination against Blacks.  But that is entirely different than supporting the organization, Black Lives Matter^TM, which was co-founded by Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal Tometi and has deeply set roots in Marxism.  (See Article here) I would be pretty confident in saying that most Americans do not support the 'dismantling of the Western nuclear family' which is one of the stated goals of BLM^TM."

“That is not anywhere on their website,” a young man protested. “I’m looking at it right here!”

“I’m glad you brought that up because I went home and looked into it.  Come to find out, BLM^TM changed their website two weeks ago.  I have brought a copy of their old website and their new one so you can see the differences."

BLM^TM is all about abolishing

“Patricia Cullen, one of the three founders, said in an interview in 2015 that they are trained Marxists, 'super-versed' in Marxist ideological theories. Marxism calls for the abolition of the family. Marx and Engels compared the nuclear family to 'public prostitution,' before explaining why it was natural and desirable for the institution to 'vanish.' (Read the article here) That’s why on their previous website," Mike motioned toward the board, "they boldly said, 'We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and ‘villages’ that collectively care for one another...' 

They probably changed that language because I would imagine their veracity was not much appreciated by people who just want to help gain a hearing and proper consideration for the health and well-being of all Black people.  When you read the website, you realize that their aggressive ideologies go way beyond that.  Marxists want the absolute abolition of private property.  They want to abolish countries, borders, and nationalities. Quoting Marx, 'Communism abolishes eternal truths, it abolishes all religion, and all morality, instead of constituting them on a new basis; it therefore acts in contradiction to all past historical experience.'  That is what BLM^TM is about. The undermining and dismantling of our country, family and faith, the taking of your property and your dignity as a person and human.  And doing it by force if necessary."   

What's wrong with that?

You would think that these constructs would be shocking and set them back, but one man responded, “We need chaos to get rid of the order that we have now.” 

“What’s wrong with getting rid of the Western nuclear family?" chimed in a young woman. "It’s a lot of the problem.”

Recapturing the vision of a biblical loving home

Mike was heartbroken.  These dear men and women seemed to have no concept of what a loving biblical home was like.  Their anger and disconnectedness was palpable.  Mike pastored them by saying,

"Rather than call it the 'Western nuclear family,' let me describe a biblical home. God calls a man to enjoy his work so that he may provide for and protect his family. He is to respect and cherish his wife, who is the anchor of the home, nurturing and administrating it for the good of her family.  The husband and wife love each other deeply and from that love come children and together they provide an environment where children prosper the best and feel stable and do what they do without living in fear.  They can learn and be loved and secure.”

“The family is in shambles in America because we have left the biblical model of the family, in fact, we have left the God who gave us this paradigm.  As we turn to Him, He gives us grace to be that good husband or good wife that creates a stable family.  We need to be working to improve the family instead of destroying it."

He didn't give them time to respond although the roll of the eyes of many did not escape him.  He pressed on with more about BLM^TM  and the irony of their support of Planned Parenthood. (See Vol 2 No 10)

Conclusion

Americans should be careful to not confuse the broader Black Lives Matter movement with Black Lives Matter^TM, a Marxist organization whose goals are directly opposed to freedom and family—even if they no longer say so openly.
