A Vision Rooted in Christ & His Living Word
Legacy Discipleship Ministries grew out of a simple love for Christ and a desire to help others know Him truly and deeply and to follow Him well.
Mike and Joanne Chastain have spent many years walking alongside believers, opening the Scriptures together, and encouraging people to grow in their relationship with the Lord. Their heart is to see Christians firmly rooted in God’s Word and learning how to live out their faith with wisdom and courage.
This ministry takes several forms. Mike engages ideas and worldviews in a local secular college classroom while Joanne reflects on those experiences through The Diary. Each week they also travel from Savannah to Charleston to disciple cadets at The Citadel, investing in young leaders who are seeking to follow Christ.
Throughout the year they host Discipleship Intensives that help men, women, and couples learn practical ways to study Scripture, grow in prayer, and live as faithful disciples.
At its heart, Legacy Discipleship Ministries is about walking with people as they learn to know Christ more deeply and pass that faith on to the next generation.
Our Current Ministries
Legacy Discipleship Ministries is led by Mike and Joanne Chastain, seasoned believers whose deepest desire is to honor Christ and advance His kingdom through faithful discipleship. Jesus Christ is their first love, and their ministry flows from a lifelong commitment to know Him, serve Him, and help others walk with Him.
Mike and Joanne have been blessed with a rich family legacy of faith. They are the parents of eight grown children, seven children-in-law, and seventeen grandchildren—all of whom love the Lord. Their family testimony reflects their conviction that discipleship begins in the home and extends outward into the church and the world.
Through Legacy Discipleship Ministries, they lead three primary ministry efforts:
Mike attends classes at a local secular college, engaging thoughtfully with the ideas shaping today’s culture. Joanne documents these experiences through The Diary, offering reflections, apologetic insights, and biblical responses to the worldview challenges encountered in the classroom. Both current and archived entries are available on the website.
Throughout the year, Legacy Discipleship Ministries hosts Discipleship Intensives for women, men, and couples. These focused gatherings provide an overview of the essential elements of Christian discipleship. Using the Essentials books, participants learn practical tools for studying God’s Word, developing a meaningful prayer life, and becoming firmly established in a life of biblical discipleship.
Through teaching, writing, and personal mentoring, Legacy Discipleship Ministries seeks to help believers grow deeply in Christ and leave a lasting legacy of faith for generations to come.
Each Monday evening Mike and Joanne travel from Savannah to Charleston to disciple cadets at The Citadel. This ministry is especially meaningful to Mike, whose own time at The Citadel significantly shaped his spiritual trajectory. Their goal is to see cadets grounded in Scripture and equipped to live faithfully for Christ as future leaders.

Meet
Mike and Joanne
Mike and Joanne Chastain have been married for more than forty-five years and share a deep commitment to helping others know and follow Jesus Christ. They met in Charleston while Joanne was studying at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing and Mike was a graduate of The Citadel. Joanne came to faith in Christ during that time through Mike’s evangelism, and he began discipling her as she grew in her new life with the Lord.
Mike is the organizing pastor of Reformation Bible Church in Savannah, Georgia, and has served in ministry for nearly forty years. Together Mike and Joanne enjoy investing in believers through teaching, discipleship, hospitality, and ministry, and they are grateful for their eight children, seven children-in-law, and seventeen grandchildren, all walking with the Lord.
